Volkswagen is recalling over 45,000 vehicles over concerns related to a loose transmission ground wire.

The March 11 recall posted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says the defect could increase the risk of a fire.

“The transmission ground wire may not have been properly connected during assembly, causing an open electrical circuit,” the agency stated.

According to the NHTSA, 48,165 vehicles are impacted by this recall.

No injuries or crashes have been reported, according to the notice. The recall number is 97TC.

What to Do if You Own a Recalled Volkswagen Vehicle

Owners can bring their vehicles to the dealership for free inspection and, if needed, will have the transmission ground wire repaired. Notification letters will be mailed out on May 8.
